Cloud Biology Company Expands Commercial Team
St. LOUIS—September 7, 2017—Benson Hill , an agricultural technology company unlocking the genetic potential of plants, today announced that Brian Gilman has joined the organization as Vice President of Business Development. A serial entrepreneur with extensive technology, genomics and business experience, Gilman has worked at the intersection of technology and life sciences throughout his career.
“It’s been proven time and again that application of advanced analytics, artificial intelligence and biology can create new opportunities and exponential growth in the life science industries, especially for markets that have been concentrated to just a few players. Benson Hill’s democratization of those capabilities across a broad range of crops and traits is opening a new era of innovation in agriculture and creating immense opportunity for farmers, consumers and the companies serving them. When I considered the potential for an industry as critical as food production, I knew it was time to join.”
-Brian Gilman, Vice President of Business Development
Gilman’s expertise building and growing companies comes at an opportune time for Benson Hill, which recently expanded commercialization of its CropOS™ computational platform and closed a new round of funding. Gilman has co-founded and led multiple companies through all phases of the startup life cycle, most recently exiting Wingu, a healthcare/biotech IT company. Wingu was bought by PerkinElmer where Gilman then co-founded their Innovation Lab and ran strategic marketing for their cloud products division.
“Our company is entering a new stage of growth, building on a portfolio of partnerships across multiple crops and geographies,” said Matt Crisp, CEO and co-founder of Benson Hill. “Brian brings first-hand experience of the power of advanced computational capabilities to predict biological outcomes and transform life science industries. His passion to make that capability accessible across the food/ag value chain rivals that of every member of our team, and we are excited to have him on board.”
